Findings: Sessional Tutors

21% of respondents identified that they were sessional tutors. A majority of these participants noted that the move to online teaching was putting a major strain on their research activities. Some were experiencing burnout from the extra hours required in their teaching roles, on top of other life stressors related to COVID19. Many identified numerous hours of unpaid work involved in moving content online and answering student emails. Costs of setting up an appropriate online teaching space at home were also identified by several participants.

“Teaching has overtaken my life. I've spent 3 full time days pivoting to online this week. When I do get to my PhD work, I can't concentrate. Seriously. Having trouble focusing.”
